The routine vision plans offered by CEC are notable for their simplicity and their ease of administration. The typical benefit consists of one eye examination per year and an allowance toward eyewear (glasses and contact lenses). Allowances are available at the $100, $150 and $200 levels every twelve months. The allowance affords the same purchasing power as would an equivalent amount of cash; the member can obtain their choice of glasses or contact lenses without an office charge so long as the retail price of the eyewear is no higher than their allowance.
There are no limitations on the choice of eyewear, i.e., the member does not have to select frames and lenses from a limited selection of "plan eyewear." Furthermore, there are no add-on costs for features such as tints, coatings, edge treatments, special lens powers, or progressive lenses. So long as the price of the eyewear selected by the member is less than or equal to their allowance, no payment to the doctor is required. If the chosen eyewear has a retail price that exceeds the allowance, the member is responsible only for the difference.
Members can access their benefit at any time during the benefit cycle. In addition, they can choose to obtain services from any one of over 1000 network providers.
